Website accessibility statement
The Arts Council is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to our website.
This accessibility statement applies to www.artscouncil.ie
Measures to support accessibility
Visual appearance:
- We use a logical and consistent hierarchical heading structure to make website navigation easy for screen reader users.
- We have taken care to ensure text and buttons under our control have sufficient contrast to meet accessibility guidelines.
- We avoid relying on colour alone to convey information.
Magnification and responsive design:
- The content is designed to be responsive and can be accessed from a desktop computer, tablet, or mobile phone without loss of functionality.
- If using a computer, you can magnify in the browser up to 400% (using Control and +) without loss of functionality.
Keyboard accessibility
- You can navigate the whole site and operate all its features using either a mouse or a keyboard. The relevant keys are the Tab key, Shift+Tab (to go back), Enter key and the arrow keys.
- The current keyboard focus is clearly visible as you tab around the content.
Hyperlinks:
Hyperlink text is unique and meaningful to aid navigation by screen reader users.
Plain English:
We use Plain English throughout the website to make text as simple as possible to understand.
Compliance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
www.artscouncil.ie is partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially compliant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility guidelines.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reason(s):
Some documents on our website are currently available only as PDFs, which may be incompatible with screen readers.
Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information.
How we are going to improve accessibility on the site
We will add alternative text to all images on this site.
We will make information in funding guidelines available in additional formats, as well as in PDF format.
Our staff will undertake training on the use of accessibility tools in document creation.
