Residency partnerships

We support residencies across a diverse range of artforms all over Ireland. Some are initiatives of the Arts Council, others are run in partnership with arts organisations and educational institutions. These roles are designed to enable arts practitioners to develop their work while in a position of relative financial stability, and to provide students with an opportunity to further their creative skills with an arts professional.

Film

The position of Film Artist in Residence at University College Cork is designed to provide a film artist of distinction with a unique opportunity to develop their practice in a university environment, while also offering students and staff the opportunity to engage with a practising artist in a meaningful way.

Literature

This longstanding partnership with a number of Irish universities offers seven Writer in Residence/Fellowship positions across Ireland. The writer provides an agreed number of teaching and office contact hours per week, and has time and space to concentrate on their own writing.

Traditional arts

The position of Traditional Artist in Residence at University College Cork is designed to provide a traditional musician, singer, dancer, story-teller or practitioner of the oral arts such as agallamh beirte (dialogues) and lúibíní (melodic dialogue) with a unique opportunity to develop their practice in a third-level environment, while offering students of music the benefit of engaging with a practising artist.

Children and young people’s arts

Children and young people’s arts residencies support artists or arts organisations to spend an academic year in a Higher Education Institution in Ireland which provides initial teacher education (primary, post-primary or further education) and/or a recognised qualification in early childhood education and care. Residencies are open to all artform and arts-practice areas.
