Arts Participation

We support professional artists and arts organisations, working across all artforms, to collaborate with communities and cross-sector partners in the development, creation and / or presentation of artistic work.

Community participants and cross-sector partners are not arts professionals but they are co-creators, collaborating with artists to influence artistic direction, outcomes and outputs.

How we develop arts participation

We provide funding opportunities and develop policy and partnership initiatives to enable artists, arts organisations, communities and cross-sector partners to work together.

Partnerships and schemes

Artist in the Community Scheme

The Artist in the Community Scheme supports artists and communities of place and/or interest to work together on arts projects across a diverse range of social and community contexts. The AIC Scheme is managed by Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts, on behalf of the Arts Council.

Arts and Disability Connect Scheme

The Arts and Disability Connect Scheme supports artists with disabilities and disabled artists to develop their practice and connect with other professional artists and arts organisations in Ireland. The ADC Scheme is managed by Arts & Disability Ireland, the national development agency for arts and disability, on behalf of the Arts Council.

Artists in Prisons Schemes

The Visual Artists in Prisons Scheme and the Writers in Prisons Scheme provide visual artists and writers with the opportunity to collaborate with students and art teachers through prison education departments. The Artist in Prisons Schemes are managed jointly by the Arts Council and the Irish Prison Service.

Arts and health

We work with government departments and state agency partners to support the strategic development of Arts and Health in Ireland.

Traveller and Roma arts

We aim to increase Traveller inclusion, visibility and participation in the arts, and to support and promote the cultural leadership and contribution of Travellers and Roma in Irish society.

Arts in prisons

We work in partnership with the Irish Prison Service Education Department to support increased opportunities for prisoner participation in and engagement with the arts.
